Your first application: how to write the message that gets you accepted

22. April 2026

Most rejected applications fail for the same reason: they could have been sent to any venue. Galleries, café owners, and boutique managers all read dozens at a time. The ones that get accepted read like they were written for that specific wall.

The template is short:

— One sentence about why this venue specifically ("I work in muted tones and your cream walls would let the pieces breathe.") — One sentence about what you'd show ("Three pieces from my Quiet Mornings series, all 50×70cm acrylic.") — One sentence about logistics ("I'm based in Lucerne and can install on the agreed date.")

That's it. No artist statement, no manifesto, no bio. The venue is busy. Your portfolio shows them your work; your message shows them you read their slot description.
